Apart from Telangana, two sides clashed after the Indian cricket team’s victory in the title of ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday in Mhow in Indore district in Madhya Pradesh. Local people said that during this time, people from the other side threw stones at a group of people who were holding a rally to celebrate the victory. Mhow is located about 25 km from Indore district headquarters.

Indore Commissioner Ashish Singh, when asked about the incident, told PTI that the situation is under control. But security forces have been deployed in the area. He said, “How this happened will be detected later. The situation is currently under control.” A police officer said that there was a dispute between the two parties during the celebration. The official said that the dispute led to stone pelting and arson.

DIG Nimish Aggarwal told PTI, “A rally was being held in Mhow in the Champions Trophy to celebrate India’s title win. During this time there was an argument in some people after which the controversy increased and the two sides started stone pelting on each other.” He said that some incidents of arson also took place during the disturbance. According to preliminary information, some vehicles were damaged.

Aggarwal said that on receiving information about the disturbance, the police reached the spot and pacified the situation. He said, “The situation in Mhow is currently under control and police force has been deployed there. There is no information about a person’s casualties during the dispute.” Local people said that the incident has caused panic in many areas of the city and many vehicles have been set on fire.

He said that a group of young cricket lovers organized a rally to celebrate India’s title win against New Zealand. But when they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of people started throwing stones at them. This spread chaos and was forced to leave many of his motorcycles and flee.

He said that after this some people set fire to many motorcycles left there, which further increased the tension. Police sources said that SP (Indore Rural) Hitika Vasal visited Mhow to take necessary steps with the objective of taking stock of the situation and restoring law and order. Sources said that security personnel have been deployed in the affected areas to prevent violence and bring the situation under control.
