Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani’s company Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) said on Monday that it has started operating at Colombo West International Terminal in Sri Lanka.
APSEZ said in a statement that the CWIT developed under public-private participation is operated by the Union-including India’s largest port operator APSED, head Sri Lankan group John Kails Holdings PLC and Sri Lankan Bound Authority under the 35-year construction, operation and transfer (BOT) agreement.
According to the statement, the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) project represents a $ 80 million significant investment and has a length of 1,400 meters and a depth of 1,400 meters and a depth of 20 meters, causing the terminal to handle about 32 lakh twenty-fifty equivalent units (TEUs) annually.
The statement stated that this is Colombo’s first completely automatic deep water terminal, which is designed to increase cargo handling capabilities, improve the return of the vessel and increase its position as a major transmission hub of the port in South Asia. Adaani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said that the operation of CWIT is an important milestone in regional cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
