Kannada actress Ranya Rao, accused of smuggling gold, has now taken a U-turn from her statement. The report of India Today quoted the letter as saying that despite being assaulted several times, he refused to sign the statement prepared by DRI officials.
However, the actress claimed that she was finally forced to sign 50 to 60 typed pages and 40 vacant pages due to excessive pressure.
Ranya said, “Since I was detained, I was assaulted until I was produced in court, the officers I can identify, he slapped me 10-15 times. Despite repeated assaults, I refused to sign his prepared statements.”
He said, “Under much pressure and physical attack, I was forced to sign 50-60 tied pages prepared by DRI officials and about 40 empty white pages.”

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested Ranya Rao from Bangalore in Bangalore on March 3 for trying to smuggle more than 14 kg of gold from Dubai.
The actress is the half -daughter of senior IPS officer Ramchandra Rao, who is currently posted as Chairman of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and as MD.
