The European Commission’s Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maros Shefkovic said on Thursday that the India and the European Unions are working together to finalize the ‘commercially meaningful’ trade agreement a few days before the next round of talks.
The 11th round of talks regarding the trade deal in the India-European Union have been proposed in New Delhi from May 12. In this sequence, both sides have agreed to pursue the conversation.
Shefkovic told X, ‘I will be happy to host my friend – Piyush Goyal. In recent uncertain times, our business is looking towards opportunities, access and forecast. Therefore we want to introduce: Commercially meaningful compromise, opening of market for goods and services. ‘
Earlier this year, the two sides decided to set a deadline to sign a long -term free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025. At present, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is on a five -day visit to London, Oslo and Brussels in Europe to promote trade and investment agreements. One of the major issues of conversation in these three tours is FTA. In this sequence, on Monday-Tuesday, Goyal met his British counterpart and resolved the pending FTA issues and attempted to finalize a long pending trade agreement between India and Britain (UK).
Goyal interacted in the case of implementing the trade agreement with the European Free Trade (EFTA) countries mainly during the visit to Oslo, the capital of Norway. EFTA countries include Iceland, Lichettensine, Norway and Switzerland. The agreement is known as the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
