Crystal looks clear up to the inside stone. The stones lying down several feet in the river are also very clear. You have never seen such a clean water. It is counted among the world’s cleanest river.
This river is in Meghalaya. The tradition of keeping the river clean has been going on since ancient times. The river flows in the Eastern Jayantia hills near the Indo-Bangladesh border, 95 km from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. It passes through the three villages of Dawki, Darang and Shenanggandeg in the three villages of the state.

The people of the village together clean up to keep the river water clean. The three villages of the Umgot River Meghalaya flow through Dawki, Darang and Shengengandeg. There are more than 300 houses in these three villages. People of Khasi community together clean up this river. These people contribute to cleaning the river every day.
Dirt is imposed on a big penalty
For Community Day, three to four days a month are fixed. In these days, at least one person comes forward in every house of the village and helps to clean the river. People along with brotherhood clean up this river. Not only this, a fine of up to Rs 5000 has also been imposed for spreading dirt in the river. From November to April, tourists come here to enjoy boating and beauty of nature.
