Prominent steel manufacturer – Tata Steel and JSW Steel recorded better production than last year in the fourth quarter of FY 2025 thanks to capacity increase in the domestic market. During the fourth quarter of FY 25, Tata Steel India supplied 56 lakh tonnes, which was 3.3 percent higher than 54.2 million tonnes in the fourth quarter of FY 24. Indian supply increased by 6 percent on a quarterly basis and Tata Steel said that ‘the best’ volumes have been assisted by a higher increase in domestic supply on a quarterly basis.
In FY 25, Tata Steel India’s supply increased in accordance with production and crossed the previous best performance recorded in FY 24. Tata Steel said that taking advantage of the increase in steel demand in India, domestic supply increased by 4.4 percent to 1.97 million tonnes as compared to last year. Tata Steel India’s FY 25 raw steel production increased by five percent to about 2.18 lakh tonnes as compared to the previous year. This happened due to the ongoing blast furnace in Kalingnagar and more steel production in Neelachal Steel Corporation Limited (NINL).
JSW Steel’s consolidated raw steel production was 76.3 lakh tonnes during the fourth quarter of FY 2025, which is the highest ever. It has increased by 12 percent compared to last year and nine percent against the previous quarter. Indian operations were ahead in this increase, which recorded raw steel production of 74 lakh tonnes and it was nine percent more than the previous quarter and 13 percent higher than last year.
In the information given to the stock market, JSW Steel said that the work of increasing production in JSW Vijayanagar Metallix Limited (JVML) is going on better. Once fully ready, the total capacity of raw steel in Vijayanagar will increase to 1.75 million tonnes per year. This will increase the capacity of raw steel in the entire Indian operations of JSW Steel to 3.42 million tonnes per year. The amount of joint production of JSW Steel in FY 2025 was 2.779 million tonnes, which was 4 percent higher than the previous year. Indian operating production rose by 6 percent to 2.698 million tonnes.
