Road Accident News: 17 people died in separate severe road accidents in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Eight people were killed and 13 others were injured in a collision between a truck and sports utility vehicle (SUV) in MP’s Sidhi district. DSP Gayatri Tiwari said on Monday that the incident took place near the Upani Petrol Pump on Sidhi-Bahri Road at around 2.30 pm on Sunday. He said that both vehicles collided face to face when the SUV was going towards Maihar with a family members, while the truck was going from Sidhi to Bahri.
The official said that seven people aboard the SUV died on the spot. Sidhi Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravindra Verma told PTI that nine out of 14 injured were referred to Rewa for further treatment, where a seriously injured person was killed. Other people are undergoing treatment at direct district hospital. Tiwari said that the truck driver has been detained.
Verma said that at the time of the accident, SUV riders were going to Maihar for the shaving ceremony of a child. He said that prima facie it seems that the SUV was coming from the wrong direction, due to which the collision occurred. The SP said that a team has been formed under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police, which will investigate the accident keeping in mind all aspects.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident. The Chief Minister said in a statement, “The families of those who died in a road accident have been instructed to sanction Rs 2 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund, one lakh rupees to the seriously injured and Rs 50,50 thousand to the other injured.”
5 killed in UP
Five people in the car collided at National Highway-27 on Monday in Basti Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, killed five people. While three others were seriously injured in the horrific accident. Police sources said the accident occurred near the Gotwa Tata Agency of the city police station area at around seven in the morning. A truck going from Basti towards Ayodhya suddenly hit a car coming from the opposite direction.
He said that five people in the car were killed and three others were seriously injured in the incident. He could not be identified immediately. The accident disrupted traffic on one lane on the highway, but it was later restored.
Maharashtra road accident
Four workers were killed and 13 others were injured when a truck going at a fast pace in the early hours of Monday in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra. An official said that the incident took place in Pishore Ghat area when the truck loaded with sugarcane was going from Kannada to Pishore. He told that there were 17 laborers on the truck. The driver lost control of the truck at Pishore Ghat, after which the vehicle overturned.
The official said that the workers fell on the road and were buried under a pile of sugarcane. He said that later four laborers died while 13 were taken out alive. The official said that the injured laborers were rushed to the hospital and they are undergoing treatment.
