In the Nagarakurnaul district of Telangana, 8 laborers have been stranded inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel for the last 48 hours. The rescue operation to take them out has intensified. There are also 2 engineers among the trapped people. Three teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Services Department and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are engaged in their lives for rescue. Meanwhile, 6 members of the miraculous rescue team have also joined the rescue operation to remove the workers trapped in the SLBC tunnel after the famous Silkyara tunnel accident of Uttarakhand of 2023 in rescue work.
Telangana government minister Juppalli Krishna Rao said that the accident took place about 13 km from the mouth of the tunnel. The rescue team is 100 meters away from the trapped people. But due to water and mud, there is a problem in the operation. The chances of laborers are very low. Our effort is going on.
It will take 3-4 days to reach the workers
Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao further said in his statement that the rescue operation will take at least three to four days to reach the final stage. The reason for this is that the accident is filled with mud and debris. Due to which rescuers are facing many difficulties in reaching there. To overcome this is a challenging task. We have to drain water before extending the equipment. Only then can the work of removing debris can begin. Additional motors have been brought to speed up the process of extracting water. I have visited the tunnel. It was about 50 meters away from the accident site. About 30 feet out of the 9 meter diameter of the tunnel, out of that 30 feet, mud up to 25 feet has accumulated.
