The Nifty-50 on Tuesday, registering losses at 22,080 in the 10th consecutive trading session. This is its lowest level since June 4 and shows a 16 per cent decline from the highest level of 26 September. The loss in 10 consecutive trading sessions is the longest series of decline since the introduction of Nifty on 22 April 1996. The base date of the Nifty 50 is 3 November 1995 while the value is 1,000. Between 28 December 1995 and 10 January 1996, the Nifty had lost about 6 per cent in 10 consecutive trading sessions. During the recent 10 trading sessions, the Nifty has slipped 3.83 per cent i.e. 879 points.
Interestingly, the Nifty has climbed only once in the last 19 trading sessions from 5 February and on 17 February it had increased by just 30 points i.e. 0.13 per cent. Meanwhile, the Sensex managed to register an edge over three occasions during the last 19 sessions. The 30 -share index closed down 96 points to close at 72,990. From its highest level, the Sensex is about 13,000 points or 15 per cent.
Extensive market index, including Nifty Midcap 100, Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty MicroP 250, are in the market of indices mandis and have fallen by more than 20-20 per cent from the highest level. Last month, the Nifty continued a loss for the fifth month.
